Dirty substrate

What material is the substrate made of?

What are the water parameters (these are GH, KH, pH and temperature, the GH, pH and temp may be involved)?

Have you tested for ammonia and nitrate especially, and if so, what are the numbers (I don't see nitrite being involved here)?

How often are water changes normally done, and what volume of the tank (not sure if the 70% with weeks after is it, or they are more regular)?

It looks to me like a dirt-mud substrate that is being stirred up, maybe churned by the filter output. So I'll repeat Byron's question--what kind of substrate is in there?

THANKYOU TO EVERYONE WHO REACHED OUT. AFTER CLEANING THE FILTER EVERY MORNING FOR 3 DAYS THE TANK IS CLEARING!!!

My partner has a 6ft tank with substrate lots of plants and small red shrimp. The water is completely dirty and cloudy even after 70% water change and waiting for weeks...
This won't go away...
Any advice?

Keep up the filter cleans/ substrate cleans and water changes.
Avoid overfeeding, shrimp only need food 2-4 times a week.

Also, a 6 foot tank with just red cherry shrimp is a shame. Why not stick around and learn about fishkeeping so that you can take over the tank and add fish?

If the tank is that dirty, do the shrimp even need feeding at all for the time being?
