I have 2 fancy goldfish in a 10gal., originally a starter tank, and i initially did the beginner mistake and overstocked, boy was that tank hard to care for, sooo I have moved the others to another tank and left the goldfish. I have a penguin mini, gravel, and a bubble stick, however I can't seem to keep the ammonia level down, or keep the water clear and not stinky! (water is cloudy- not green). These goldfish have been alone in there for over a month, do i need to recycle? and how do i do it? Still using my well colonized biowheel, etc... also, note- I have been using chemicals to keep ammonia down (amquel+ and some stuff that is supposed to help w/ breaking down biologic waste?) is this a mistake? PLease Help! The poor fish have been acting very strange (moments of what appears to be lethargy and then moments of normal behaviour). Thanks! :dunno:

How often do u do a water change? Cause im sure u know how quick goldfish produce waste!! Also, how many goldfish have u got in the 10 gallon? Watch how much you feed them because overfeeding can lead to cloudy water.

hey thanks, I only have 2, have been doing ~ weekly 20-25% water changes, and I have decreased the amount they have been fed ( iswitched from a floating flake to a kind that slowly drops to bottom)...

maybe u need to do a complete strip down on the tank but keep the matured filter like is. Other than that, i dont know what could be causing it. Make sure u siphon out all uneaten food after 3 minutes. Benny

Goldfish can be very messy fish and for 2 I would have them in a minimum of 20 gallons, even 30 would be better. You might want to check out the goldfish forum and look at the stickied posts.
