Dirty Coloured Water

hi, guys

im half way through a fish in cycle been doing a 20% water change every morning and night, water has cleared up loads, but i got up this morning and the water is like a browny colour, is this off my bog wood?

not the clearest of pictures but the most likely answer is yes it's the bogwood. it releases tannines, it's completely natural, harmless to fish (some speciies actually prefer it.

if you want rid of it then remove the bogwood, soak it in a bucket of water, change the water everyday until the water remains clear then put it back in the tank. you'll need to do some water changes on the tank to remove it.

It probably is from your bogwood, did you soak it before you added it to your tank?

Also is your tank cycled yet?

yes i soaked it for about a week in fresh water changed it every other day, ive been cyclin for about a week now but when i do a p.h test and that i cant tell what colour they are to match them up on the card (tetrafin mini master test kit)

Its tannins from the bogwood.

Thats what we used to do in days gone by. Place it in a bucket and run off the stained water periodically and replenish until the runoff is clear. (may take some time though)

Soaking it in boiling water will speed up the process and will kill all the bacteria that may be lurking in it.
