Dimmable Lights?

Can you get such a thing for aquariums? We take time to make the tank environment as natural as possible for our fish, but the lights work as if the sun pops up in a morning and drops like a stone at night!
Would it be an electrical job, or can you buy a device to turn them on and off gradually?
And do the fish even care do you think? My shrimp go into hiding instantly when I turn the light on, so I know it gives them a little start at least.

i dont think bother about light, only that it makes them visable and when its off the seem to relax, and thats when the night hunters do their damage, i dont think they would notice if slowly dimming although when it comes on all of a sudden the nocternal ones must rush to hide. di

You can get dimple ballasts from lamp specs, just rig up your old tubes to one of these.
