Dim Lighting For Betta Tank

right now, my 10 gal betta tank has an incandescent hood with a 9-watt compact fluorescent bulb on the right socket.

i would like to switch to an alternative light or modify it somehow so that it's dimmer in the tank.

anyone have a suggestion on how to go about it?

i plan to use black gravel to enhance the bettas' colors. i'm going for the neon tetra effect i've seen in my lfs.

The easiest way I can think of is to buy some floating plants for the tank. I would imagine you could also use some sort of window tinting.
