ive been doing endless research into different types of fish and what would be good for my tank. and im struggling to find fish i like. and the ones i do like i cant have !

at the moment ihave 5 zebra danios, 2 angel fish and a bristlenose catfish.

ive been lookin into getting one male betta from a breeder a bit later on.
and i quite like the red tail black sharks, altho i know u can only have one per tank as they dont like their own species.

but other than that, i cant seem to find fish i like, that would fit into what i already have. i really liked the discus fish, but apparently they can be quite aggressive.
i wanted some neons, but i was told the angels might eat them.

does anyone have any good ideas? i really want some 'different' fish.

Have you seen the rams ? I have a male and female they are very pretty in colour and lovely to watch :)

Actually discus would be compatible with your fish, but you need a pretty big tank if you're going to add a group of them. Plus they need soft water and are fairly sensitive to water quality from what I hear. But if you can provide all that... angelfish and discus look great together. :)

would discus be ok with a betta tho?

oo i like the rams too. they are nice :)
do they need to be kept in groups?

You're going to put a betta in the tank? I think discus would be ok with that, but not the angels. Plus the betta might be too aggressive too. I hope you have a backup tank for him if it doesn't work out.

Take your time, this is part of the fun, finding the fish that is right for you. I still haven't fully stocked the 63 gallon I bought in May, keep changing my mind. Besides, the present population seems intent on stocking it for me. :D

well i went to the lfs today and came back with nothing
every store tells me something different.
they wouldnt let me get another pleco incase they fight. and they had a really nice starlight pleco and he wouldnt let me have it.

i couldnt get a betta cos of the angels.
the rams were still in quarantine so couldnt get any of them
they had a really gorgeous puffer, but obv couldnt have that cos he'd eat my fish

they said i could have the neons, which is strange cos ive always thought the angels would eat them. so its all such conflicting advice.

i just couldnt see anything else i liked. and it didnt help they were really strict with what they'd let me have.

don't complain about strict lfs. Most will just sell you whatever just to make a buck.

Look into the cockatoo cichlids. They look a lot like rams but aren't so sensitive. I believe.

jenny6165, that sounds like a pretty good fish store, except for the neon thing. I've heard angels will eat neons too.

Anyway, check out nmonks' Can I Keep It software tool. It's been invaluable for me. http://homepage.mac.com/nmonks/software/software.html

thanks for that. it doesnt say on there i cant keep plecos together though...

it says i cant keep red tailed black sharks with angels, but i can keep silver sharks? can anyone tell me what the difference is

Yeah, silver sharks are also called bala sharks. They get huge; up to 12 inches. The software doesn't say everything, but it's a great guide. Plus it does give you the scientific names too so you can research whatever fish further.

Hmmm maybe another mistake for me I got an angel and also have a RTBS will they fight ? He said they would be fine the shark is tinky at the minute :/

Hi there Jenny, I have an Angel fish with neons and she doesn't give them a second thought! I was warned when i bought her to add one fish to the tank at a time and see what her reaction was to each one, it's worked so far for me cause I've had no fatalities 'cept for a pair of Gouramis(have no idea there they just appeared dead on the bottom 3 weeks after being introduced.
I love swordtails at the moment. Only cause I am such a Babies person, my green swordtail had 30 yesterday...I Love Fish!!
hope I helped in some way
Sandra
