I am putting my fishies on a diet. Ok I give my fish 3 square meals a day. Breakfast is 3 kibbles, lunch is 2 kibbles, and dinner is 3 kibbles. But I made up a special food for them. I mixed 2 different wardly foods and betta bites together. Now they never know which kibbles they are going to get. lol

i dont think you need to put htem on a diet i give my fish same amount

morning: 4 pellets

after school (lunch): 1 pellet

evening: 4 pellets

lol Well before I fed them like 5 kibbles in the morning and like 8 in the evening because I have a shaker(not anymore) and more fish kibbles came out than needed.lol

Well... I've been told by others that, that is a lot of food for a betta. If their tummies are swollen - you are feeding too much. 2-3 pellets 2x per day is plenty. Their tummies are only the size of their eyeballs (and pellets expand when wet - so they do expand in their tiny tummies.) You can kill them with love... unfortunately. I know, I had a heavy-hand with feeding - Max always seems to plead for food. But when I was feeding him more - he was getting constipated.

If you have a hard time not feeding them... try feeding 1 pellet 4-5x a day so their feedings are more evenly spread out - that's what I do so I don't feel so guilty not feeding them more. Also a small piece of the inside of a pea at least once a week will help to keep things moving. Substitute 2 pellets for 2 bloodworms or brine shrimp, etc., as well for variety.

I've also been told to fast them for one day a week. I have a really hard time with that but will do it if I see any problems regarding my feeding my bettas.

After I put them on the diet my female has gotten more eggs. But I think I might cut of lunch because I dont have much time to feed them right when I get home(between rabbits and you guys)lol
