i dont know if anyone or everyone heard about this one it was in a uk mag we get in aus and i know its not tropical but it illistrates the importane of research before buying a fish and lfs asking more questions to the buyer if necessary,

a pet shop in the uk had a regal tang it came into the shop a small size and stayed with them for a quiet awhile becoming the shops pet they took great pride in the fish it grew to a good size and had being with them quiet sometime. One day a couple came in looking at the fish for sometime then they asked if it had any problems if it feeds well how long they had it for, quiet happy with the ans and questions they sold the fish to the couple. The next morning the couple rang the store saying the fish had died the store staff were devistated they asked questions on how it died what tank it was in and much to the shock of staff they were told it was in a freshwater tank the couple had no idea it was a marine fish!!!!!!

i know this isnt tropical as i said but it highlights the importance of research and asking questions!!!!

the story of the 13yr old reminded me of it

the vast majority...
Understandable methinks....
Anyhow;
The article was in PFK?
I've tried to find it on their site but can't drag it up, if you have the old issue you may be able to find a link....

I would have thought similar stories would have cropped up before but i'm fairly sure this particular one was in PFK, if i recall correctly i read it myself...
Quite recently...

Actually i think there was a thread/poll done on this very same story not that long ago....Still none the less it was pretty stupid what the guy did with the fish- poor fish.

that is insane... reminds me of something my sister would do..

Well the blame CANT be placed on either the couple or the store... but only BOTH as the couple should be researching that stuff and the store needs to be telling that information to people,, especially when the couple asked questions as it shows they prolly dont know much about it and need all the info they can get...

But it was an honest mistake on both parties and will prolly never happen to them again:p

Murph

i can see where murph is coming from it was a mistake from both parties one should of asked more one should of explianed more. but how far can staff go without being abused ive heard of staff being abused for asking to many questions. maybe sometimes even if we know what we are on about we should let staff ask questions without being abused so they ask everyone so this type of accident gets reduced from happening
