I've had my 125 litre tank setup and running for about 3 months now.

Since day 1, I've had problems with diatoms in the tank.

They slowly coat my decor and live plants until I clean them off. I currently run the lights (T8) from about 4 - 5pm till just before midnight. I usually have a reading of between 20 and 40 ppm nitrate.

Is there any way to get rid of this stuff?

I wish I had an answer, I've been fighting it since day one in both my tanks

Add some phosphate remover in your filter. Something like Eheim phosphate out, or a similar product(there are many out there), and this should get rid of it. You will still need to clean the existing diatoms away, I would use a sponge and toothbrush, but it should then me kept at bay. When you clean your filter, recharge the phosphate remover as per the instructions supplied on the box.
