Ok so I got home about 20 minutes ago and noticed one of my Diamond tetra's eye bulging and him swimming awkardly, leaning to the side almost. I have no explanation for it. My ph is 7.5 Ammonia and nitrite are tested twice a week and have been at zero since I completed my fishless cycle. My other fish are in great condition spawning and bubble nesting and even my shrimp are carrying eggs.

Until about 6 weeks ago the diamonds were barely indistinguishable. However they coloured up almost over night (males dark purple / dark brown with gold scales. Females an intense pink and silver with gold scales) and started courting which is quite a violent afair. To the point where each time it happens the rest of my stock hover above and to one side of the tank while the males go crazy, fighting for dominance over the moss and densely planted area until the female drops her eggs. I have 25-30something diamond fry at the moment.

Do you think it's an illness or injury?

The tetra in question is the second ranking male which the alpha of the group always chases away. They were last vying for position on sunday.

Help!

How many gallons or litres is the tank.
How many fish and which type.
Can you post water stats please.
What the make of the test kit you are using.

Is just one eye bulging out.
Any redness to the eye.
Does the eye look cloudy.
Any fungus growing on the eye.
Any white linning around the rim of the eye.

It could be an injury due to fighting. Or bacterial.

Is the fish also bloated, as dropsy and popeye are closely related.
One a fish have trouble seeing throw an eye it will sometimes tilt to oneside.
