hi
I have a betta that has been so ill over the past week and had several suggestions of cause from dropsy, velvet, swim bladder and TB

symptoms
floating on one side but not as much now
went grey in colour that comes and goes
stress strips coming and going
hasnt eaten for 4 days
gasping but gradually stopped
fitting
no sores or wounds of any kind
no rust or gold colouring when light shone on him

what i need to know is what would you do next?

Bless him.
Sounds like a parasite to me.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing.
Check the gills over what do they look like, pale with excess mucas on them, or red and inflamed.
Is the fish twitching.

hi wilder
no his gills are ok, if you mean twitching as in sudden jolts then yes i suppose thats what i meant by fitting  both his fins were clamped as well but only one seems to be now

Been looking info up for you it points to bacterial to flukes.
Get you some info.

For now you could try feeding him peas, see if he eats any of them mushed up really good.

This is a hard one as it points two ways.
Fish can tilt to oneside with parasites.

Can you post a pic of the sick betta.

Was he bloated, did he go abit thin before he stopped eating.

blast i cant get pic on as im on partners computor and it doesnt have the software for my camera and i cant find the CD (typical ive got great photos) well he was slightly bloated and my other one was massive so i fed them peas at the same time, yes he did get thinner and hes losing wieght slowly now as well.
this is pointing in so many different directions, as his symptoms keep changing, going and coming back......most strange

i got hunch that it was swim bladder as most of his symptoms point to that but then there are more that are found with other diseases as well.

If he was rubbing it would be far easier.
Losing weight can happen with flukes as well.
To be honest it pointing to quite a few things.
Do a search on fitting and see what it fetches up.

ive looked and looked and looked again but it keeps giving things like fish shop fittings etc....typical
did try swim and body ailments but its still not pointing at one direct thing. Hmmmmmmmmmmm!

i did have a bad case of skinny disease not long ago in my other tank, do you think it is a possibility that ive infected his tank by some stupid means?

I know that what I was thinking.
