I have a pair of Honduran Red Points that had fry about 2 weeks ago now , after a day i took over half the fry out the tank into another tank. It took me a while to get them so i decided to leave what was left in the tank and see how it went , after about a week to my surprise it looked like the Honduran pair had managed to keep all the remaining fry alive. But as i saw the male starting to colour up again and keep going into the cave they originally spawned in and the female getting a swollen belly i thought maybe it was time to take the rest out of the tank.

So i took them all out and ever since the female has been going back to the spot i took them from and just lying on the gravel. Sometimes she starts pecking at the gravel and sometimes the male comes over to join in with her. She's been over to the cave a few times but she is mainly hovering about where her babies were.

Is she depressed? if so is there anything i can do to help her? I didn't think fish got so attached to there babies. Kinda broke my heart to see her trying to get her babies from me.

Anyone have any advice?

This is normal, basically as they care for them they obviously have some type of attachment to there offspring, showever it wont be like it is with humans...but hopefully as time passes she will realise they have gone, more than likely end up breeding real soon, so how many days now have they been seperated?i would be inclined to preform a nice large waterchange and drop the temp a few degree's at time of waterchange<not the heater just how you add the water, then see if that induces some breeding tendencys again

It's only been two days i think since we took the fry off her. She seems chirpy sometimes then next time you look at her depressed, just depends when you look at her . Was gonna do a big water change actually , but my bf is watching the football atm and need his help :/ lol
