I was wondering is it just the male thats overly territorial? Would it be possible to stock just 3 females?

I've always found a single Demasoni does OK in a mixed tank - they will claim their own territory and defend it but if you don't go too over the top with stocking and make plenty of caves etc - that should be OK.

I would avoid any similar looking species like P.Elongatus and many of the Afra genus - Demasoni generally won't tolerate fish of a similar appearance. :good:

Mine gets along grandly with two 3 Afra's, but this just may be lucky, He relelntlessly hated the other demonsi tho, lol...

Some Afra's are OK - it completely depends on the specific species. The ones to avoid are the likes of Nkolongwe and Njambe, which are darker in colouration and look more like Demasoni.

Yeah thats why I said I may just be lucky, as all these cichlids have a genetic agression then their own personalities righT?.

Yep - some of them haven't read their profiles telling them how they should behave.

Maybe these fish should research theirselves before they ar eput up for sale. Silly fish :p

I would say that unless it's wild caught it will probably do well on the flake and pellet diet. A few mbuna from Malawi only eat plant matter too. Most of them do just fine.

Female P.Saulosi and M.Estherae are the only Mbnuna that spring to mind with an overall orange colouration but neither have distinctive vertical bars.
