Anyone ever have a pleco with a deformed tail?
We've had this pleco now for hmm... maybe 7 months?
It always hides so I never noticed the bend in its tail until just recently. The bend/curve occurs just before the tail fin.
The pleco seems to get around just fine and swims away rather quickly once I'm spotted. And I've seen it attached to the glass a couple of times so the deformation doesn't seem to bother it much from what I can tell.
Should I be concerned that eventually this will cause problems for the fish?
Anyone have a fish that was deformed but lived a nice long life?

Is your pleco deformed similar to this?  If so, it should be able to live a decently normal life although I have heard that they have shorter lifespans.

This little guy is one I have.  I seen it at my LFS when I went in to get something else and they left me have it since it looked like that.  It was the best looking pleco in the tank other than the deformity.  So far it has been very outgoing and healthy; eating well and having no issues getting around.

I've had plenty of deformed fish, depending on the deformity it's not a problem.

I have heard anecdotes that plecos kept in cramped tanks develop that tail bend, if it's what I'm thinking about. But that's just what I've heard around. Can you get any pics of it?

Vicky- I wish I could get photos of it. It always hides though and when it is out, it quickly hides when it spots me lol. It was maybe an inch and a half long when I bought it (didn't notice any deformity then), and now it's maybe 4? inches. Not even sure since I don't see it often. It's also in my 125 gallon tank so it has lots of room to grow :)

Wildbetta- Yeah the bend is similar to that except a bit further down the tail.

If it's similar to the fish in the photo it could just be scoliosis.
