I have a school of eight giant danios in a well maintained 55 gallon aquarium. I do frequent partial water changes and I change the power filter media about once every month. I also use undergravel filtration. The aquarium looks clean and the water is crystal clear. They are in there with a common pleco and a one giant gourami. I have had the danios for about three years. They have grown to be quite large.

Their staple food is TetraFin supplemented with frozen brine shrimp. I can't get live aquarium foods where I live. The pleco also gets an occasional slice of cucumber.

All of the fish in the tank except for two look fine. However, two of the danios are starting to look thinner than the rest and they have developed sort of a hunch back. I don't know how else to describe it. They still seem to eat OK and they can swim without problems. But this deformity is bothering me and I do think it is some sort of problem.

Can anyone tell me what they think this problem might be and if so what kind of treatment if any I should try? I have an old twenty gallon tank that I could set up as an isolation tank if necessary.

Thanks in advance for your help.

John

Danio the spine can bend with old age. Also they can go thinner with old age.

Just looked them up on the site and its says this Giant Danio - 5 to 7 years,
So it might not be old age.
Being skinny and bent spine can be fish tb, internal parasites.

Signs of internal parasites are.
long stringy white poo or clear mucas poo.
Worms prutruding from the anus.
Enlarged anus or red inflamed anus.
Being skinny or bloated.
Sometimes the fish will swim on its side.
Bent spine.

There this link to fish tb.
