Was having a peek at the babies, and discovered two things. Managed to only count 10 this time, which I have to blame on the whole move I had to do with them so young. But nevertheless, most of them are developing a red colour one or two are quite silvery but one little fella is a shimmering blue  It isn't just a "squint and you can see it blue" either. It's very noticeable. Now, coming from a red HM daddy and a cambo mum, I never thought I'd have any sort of blue in the fry.

Then, I noticed one of the lil red guys - and his deformity. You can clearly see his spine running along then all of a sudden it goes up like a hill and back down a bit - leaving his tail higher than his body instead of straight along - what should/can I do?

There is nothing you can do to help the deformed one only put it out of its misery - better now than when its older, poor lickle thing - however don't ask me how to do it

As for the colour it could be a throwback from past generations, it does happen

I knew this is the only answer I'd get, so I expected it - but I just can't do it  It's the really active one too, seems to healthy other than its problem. I have no idea how to euthanise a baby..

Thought this would be the case as well, but its a nice little surprise!

i have had many defored livebearer fry over the years but couldn't bring myself to put them out of there misery, so i let them grow and they lived a nice long happy life had the same problem as you betta fry, a few of them even out lived there healthier brothers and sisters :good:

I think I will just be leaving him/her, and just keep it for myself to care for :good:

Will do, can't get a pic at the moment - still a bit small to see the deformity I think but will have a go later on.

edit: Wrong word lol

Unless the deformity is so severe that it won't be able to function properly, it should be fine. I know a couple people who used to be on here that had some "oddities" that they kept or gave to people on the board and they (the fish) lived pretty normal lives. I know people work with their blind bettas so a wee oddity shouldn't require too much more effort. :good:
