One of my bettas has a dorsal fin that looks odd. Its kind of cupped, like if it was plastic and you stuck your finger through it. It dosen't look like an injury, but it dosen't look normal, either. I was in Wal Mart the other day and had to (well, I didn't HAVE to, but I couldn't not!) seperate two bettas that some jerk had put together. (Apparently dumped one from its cup into the other  ) One of those bettas also had the cupped dorsal fin, so it led me to wonder how common this is.

Is there anything I should do for him, or is it just a birth defect and not really a problem?

He has a filtered 5 gallon tank all to himself. (Though I may be adding some ghost shrimp, soon.)

If another betta had the same deformity from the same exact store and the same exact stock, then yes, the betta's breeder may have had a deformed betta ( or at least his fins) that mated and sold children (fishies :) )
