Hi everyone,

Been a while since I've been on here. I'm not new to fish keeping but I am still a newbie when it comes to knowing about all different types of fish. I've been keeping a small 10 gallon Tiger barb tank and a 75 gallon community tank for the last year+ and the fish are thriving. I'm pretty good about doing water changes and keeping the water stats safe for the fish, so i wouldn't consider myself a rookie, but nowhere near an "experienced" fish keeper.

With that said, I just got my hands on some new tanks. I wanted to turn them into dedicated tanks since I already have a large community tank. My question is this: What kind of fish should I put in each of the tanks. I like more active fish (love chiclids because they're interactive with you), but would also like to have a slower paced tank that I'm thinking of putting in my bedroom. Nothing better than waking up and seeing a beautiful tank in front of you). Here's the tanks:

1) 20 gallon long tank (30" long x 13" deep x 13" high). This is the one i'm thinking of putting in my bedroom. fits great on my dresser
2) 20 gallon rectangle (24" long x 16" deep x 16" high). Going in the front hall entrance to my house to welcome guests.
3) Octagon tank, not sure of the size, but it's small, so i'd guess 5-10 gallon. Not sure if i'll use it yet, but recommendations would be welcome. it's approximately 44" around and is 18" high.

Thanks for recommendations for dedicated tank inhabitants :)

You could think about puffers for the octagon... let's see, let me give you a member jennybugs link..

I think she has puffers down in there somewhere and maybe other ideas for you.

The other two tanks I'll have to think about.. long tank but want slow inhabitants, not as long 20 but needs to look good to guests... difficult!

I think i'm going to make the long one for the bedroom an African Cichlid tank...some of the smaller species, along with some snails perhaps. Still contemplating the one for the front hall.
