Debauwi Catfish

I have some room in my tank at the minute and one of my LFS has debauwi catfish for sale, even the owner doesn't know much about tyhem and I've never heard of them before so once again I'm calling upon the forum to just give some info on these fish. At the moment i have 3 cories (upping to six shortly) a blue ram a krib a clown plec, 2 thin striped loaches, 1 opaline gourami, 5 rosy tetras and 4 danios (soon to be 5) hope this helps - 18 fish before i boost the danios and cories numbers, 22 after I bulk up.

Tank is 130L

grows to around 3.2" temp up to 26c it fits in with all your other fish except your blue ram which needs a steady temp of 29c

They're a very nice fish (although probably not Pareutropius debauwi, as that is apparently quite rare; they're more likely to be P. buffei)

Grow to about 3 inches, but do prefer dim lighting and overgrown tanks and to be in a shoal of 6+ as they're quite shy

These fish are on my wishlist when I have the space to accomodate a 15-20 group in an all-African themed tank, although I'm a little wary of how hard my tap water is compared to where they are caught wild. The chances are these fish at your LFS are Pareutropius buffei, which are commonly mislabelled as "Debauwi Catfish"...

I would be very relunctant to put these in a 130l tank long term (4-foot tank or morelong term IMO), because they are pretty active ~8cm SL fish as adults and they do so much better in sizeable groups of a dozen or so (as opposed to the common approach of a 6+ group of a species for social fish). They love a moderate-strong current and 23C should be their usual temperature, perhaps with a "summer season" of 26C.

Beautiful fish and so unique, being a social; midwater; diurnal catfish!
