Hi guys

i woke up tis morning to find my male Siamese fighting fish dead, RIP.

Since then i have been unable to see the 2 female Siamese fighting fish's that i have, I have a fair bit of weed in the tank so they could be hiding but i dont want to go moving things willy nilly.

I have read that the 'mating' process with the Siamese fighting fish can be a 'violent', could that of killed him, would the females be 'up the duff' and hiding?

Bit worried.

I have done a water test etc and everything is good with that, just confused as to why the male is dead and the females are hiding.

If you were keeping all 3 fish together in a tank, the chances are fairly good that all but 1 is dead. It is possible to set up a females only tank if you are careful doing it and monitor it for aggression. It is not possible to set up a male Betta splendens with another one of either sex and just leave it. One of the fish will end up dead in a day or two. Breeding sometimes kills and almost always injures one or the other fish if it is done right. If you do not take the needed steps to arrange a breeding, you have just placed 2 fish together that each will not tolerate the other. Even for experienced Betta splendens breeders, the fish are conditioned and made ready separately and then introduced to each other under controlled conditions, they are not simply put together.
