tank 140 litres eheim 2266 ecco filter tetratec air pump.Fish 3 pearl gourami,s 4 flying foxes,6 glowlight tetra's . two weekly water 25% water changes , using aquasafe as directed changed last saturday, changed 1 coarse filter pad washing in changed water .added a sail fin plec on Saturday.
temp 80c
pH 7.0
nitrate 0mg/L
Purchased some additional plants from java plants about a month a go ,all seem ok
Last night noticed 3 neon tetra's dead other ones not looking too good ,swimming eratically, upsidedown, lying on bottom of tank then reviving for a short time then sinking to the bottom again
Did another water change 25% last night and put a carbon disc in filter (did i do right)
looked again this morning another three neons dead (none left now )
Tested again tonight same results as above
Would you do another water change tonight ?
The glowlights look a bit lethargic and look as though they are quivering when swimming (if this helps ) .
The fox's seem quieter than normal
The gourami's seem o.k
Any help or ideas would be much appreaceated
Regards Chubber

Run out of easy test for ammonia & nitrite last week ,when last tested
ammonia 4
nitrite 0 mg/L
Tank set up at least 2 years
How long would you leave the carbon filter in for ?
tetra,s are about three years old
I'll do another water change tonight
thanks
Chubber

tetras may be old :/

edit: never mind dont listen to me :S they can live to be a good 10years

ok but yea my 2 neons died because they are fragile and cannot stand the same conditions as other fish... thats why with neons its always good to have a species tank :) so that may be your problem!

How big do them plecs grow, sounds like the plec might of fetched something into the tank, any signs of heavy breathing or flicking and rubbing, red inflamed gills, you need to do a water change you have an ammonia reading.

I added another plec to my other tank everything o.k. in there
same size tank
will get some refills for testing tomorrow, then see what results are in meantime will do another 25% water change tonight

Do the glow lights look like they are shaking as mine did it and they had parasites, like they are twitching something irratating them..

Yes glowlights are shaking ,quivering .what treatment if any cured yours
Regards Chubber

Just check the gills do they look red and inflamed, or the could have body flukes, whitespot or velvet.

Malachite Green (zinc free) 100% Cures Ich, fungus, oodinium (velvet) mouth fungus, and prevents fungus on some eggs, most effective when used with salt. 28.4 grams make 1 gallon. Then use 1 drop per gallon.

Good parasite med but some say they treat body and gill flukes.

glowlights seem to have red gills
flyingfox's have similar and around the mouths
Regards Chubber

not as bad as that
the only thing i've got to treat it tonight is some punktol made by JBL it contains Malachite Green
I will have to take my carbon pad out before dossage
Lets hope i'm in luck !
Regards Chubber

Good luck, gill flukes are hard to get rid of, i'm still battling with mine, might have to strip the tank down.

thanks for your help
will let you know how it turns out
