recently acquired an aquarium from a neighbour. already contained about 7 fish, including 2 neon tetras.
the other day added a male siamese fighting fish to the mix. at first it was quiet and hid alot, but then started chasing other fish, especially as one started nipping its tail.
however today found a dead neon tetra. was colourless and at the bottom of the tank in a pot thing, was also missing one eye. grim.
i suspect either disease or the fighter. my other neon now looks fidgety and seems to be hiding, when it comes out the fighter seems to chase it. it appears to be twitching, or maybe im imagining it, and im sure there is a white blob on its eye.
worried.
any suggestions?
thankss

The betta probably stressed the tetra out from chasing and bothering it, once a fish dies, pretty much anything in the tank will eat at it, explaining the eye. All your fish will be happier if you take the fighting fish out, I think.

Male Bettas should not be put in a community tank as they can be aggressive towards similar looking fish + anything inquistive like a neon which may have a playful nip at it. I would definitely take it back and consider other options. What size is tank + current stock and we can offer suggestions.
