my gourami died lastnight. it drowned by getting caught up in the roots of the plant in the tank and couldnt get air. i was gutted! all the gouramis in the tank got on so well, and now this! the male in the tank now only has 2 females to focus his attention on! do you think i should get another?

they are dwarf red robins. the tank size is 60 gallons. i would say it was a freak accident but should i remove the plant?

I am sorry about your red robin. Two females should be ok in theory, but if you can find another one, all the better. Just make sure though, that she is about the same size, otherwise she might get hassled.

I am not sure about your plant. Maybe you can try to get the roots under the substrate first, so they can't get tangled, or are it roots from a stem plant? Check also whether she was not chased into that area. I had once that a dwarf gourami was bothered so much, that he was driven into a natural cave formed by the trunk base of a piece of wood. And died consequently.

she was caught in the stems of the plant, she was facing the floor so i think she may have seen some food (i put some blood worms in that night) and got stuck trying to get it.

Poor gourami :(

You could put some stones/decoration around the plant so the others can't get too close to it.
