Dead Fish

oh so the slime coat is actually the natural coat that the fish puts on its body to protect itself, I always thought it was a form of disease like a fungus that grew on the fish!

Ill get those meds as soon as I can tomorrow and start treating asap, ill let you know how it goes though!, ill also try and borrow a better camera and get some pics

When a fish is producing more slime yes something is wrong.
Excessive slime covers entire fish. Make sure your water is not Over-Salted. This makes the fish produce more slime coat. If this is not the case, they could have a protozoan infection

I did some water tests a few moments ago (left it an hour of so after the water change so it would be well mixed) and everything is fine, I dont add any aditional salt but dont have any sort of tests to tell how salted the water is..

if it is a protozoan infection then hopefully this waterlife treatment will sort it out!

Only way you can get salt it your tank is by adding it to the tank.
Some fish keepers use salt if they are not scaless fish, but you can over do it by adding to much salt.
Find salt only good if a fish is stressed.
Salt meant to help with infections and parasites, but salt dosn't do much good with parasites like flukes.

Hi Wilder,

The Protozin has just gone it, as advised on the bottle I have turned off my UV and im not running Zeolite or Carbon in my filter.

The Med has stained my water blue (which is fine!) but its now clearing, is this because of the fine filter wool I have in my filter, should I take this out or is it only absorbing the colour?

Thanks,

Craig

Sorry was ill yesterday, hows are the fish doing.

Hi Wilder,

Fish are looking better, (day 4 and end of treatment nearly) The fungas looks like its gone, the main minnow that was affected has lost some of its tail but now there is no fungus im hoping it will start the grow back.

There are still a couple of fish with slightly red gills still and breathing faster than usual, do you think its work me doing a water change, run some carbon and then maybe treat with an anti bacterial (such as the interpet no9 you recomended). Would it do any harm to the tank, just want to make sure whatever it was, its gone?

My stats are still all good and there is plenty of oxygen so I know it isnt that

Thanks,

Craig

I'm more concerned about the red gills as that point to gill flukes if water quality and aeration is good in the tank.
Have they been rubbing there gills on things in the tank.

If your fish are producing more slime I would look into skin and gill flukes.,

They have been flicking, unsure if it was the gills or body though (so quick and to be honest not taken notice where they have been flicking, just that they are occasionally)

Any suggested medication?

Has the wormer plus arrived as that sounds like the best med for flukes.

That why I said wormer plus it treat more parasites and had a idea that flukes could behind your problems.
When did you order the wormer plus.

its my own fault, was a couple of days aho so hopefully here very soon - if its good its worth the wait for the extra 24 or so hours? Ill keep running carbon and do a water change in the meantime to try and clear the old meds

I would leave the waterlife med in for now, you can use other meds with wormer plus anyway.
Good luck.
