I was just wondering, what happens if a fish dies and you leave it in the tank for a long time?

I'm just scared that if I go away this might happen. Will it throw off water levels? Will it make my fish sick?

Depends on the size of the fish, size of the tank, bio filtration, and frequency of maintenance. Worst case would be an ammo & nitrite spike, best case the fish would deteriorate with no problems with your tank.

Well when 1 of my fish is dead i remove it from the tank as a skeleton, the other fish eat it.

Most of the time I just notice that a fish is missing and I can't find the remains.
The fish I have in the tank do a very good clean up job of dead fish.

Maybe when you before your leave you can add aquarium salt to the water to lower the risk of nitrite spike.

also I don't know, you may want to add some stress coat.

what type of fish do you have? There is a good chance it'll just end up as fish food.

Is your reply to me or is it to Relinquished ?
