hi everyone

i have tonight come home to a dead barb,, i have a 30ltr bi orb and 3 weeks ago added 4 barbs and 2 gourmis and tonigh a barb has died and another is swimming in the same place looking down and is not eating and looks as if it has tiny air bubbles attached to it

can some one help me please i dont wanna lose any more fish x

You have too many fish in that 30l Biorb, it would be fully stocked with just a singleton gouriami IMO, because it is a small volume tank with a tiny surface area for gaseous exchange. In all seriousness, I advise you to go out and buy a ~£15 high volume pastic container (I bought a ~110l one 18 months ago to use as a QT), then look at seocond hand deals for something more pleasing on the eye... If you are patient enough, you will find a bargain.

But right now with teh info you have provided so far, I suspect you are "fish in cycling," you need to do an emergency ~95% water change with fresh similar temp dechlorinated water ASAP. You will probably need to do something similar everyday for the next 60-90 days because ammonia and nitrite levels will rapidly reach toxic level in a 30l tank, hence why I suggest a ~100l plastic tub, it will take longer for toxic levels to be reached and buys the fish and you a bit more time to react.

bit confused with your reply as you say i have to many fish in my tank ? i have 5 and have had this tank for 6 years i have been having the water checked by my local pet shop and water changes have been made with treated water as suggested by them hence i cant understand why they have got ill on barb is now looking at the gravel and has what looks like little air bubbles attached to its body ?
