Heya all,

Well it would seem the Gods weren't smiling on me over the last 2 days (in some respects).

I installed my new external filter with no problems (yay!) and popped in the mature sponges from the filter I've been running for over 12 months.

everything running great, fish happy etc. etc.

Ammonia before the job was 0.00 and I did a big water change afterwards to be sure.

Then we had a number of power cuts :( I went out Saturday pretty much all day, and when i came back fairly late, my fish tnk lights were still on... and stayed on til about 2am... you can guess why?

Yes, MORE powercuts!

I reset the timers, and did another quick ammonia test, its now reading 0.25 :( will do another water change and recheck tomorrow.

Do you think its worth getting some ammo-lock? (I've never really used it), or should I show an ounce of patience and give it time to settle back down?

Cheers all!

0.25 is easily remedied with a large water change... Even if you have to do a 60+% change today and a 50% change tomorrow it will soon be back to normal. Power cuts can be a nightmare, just make sure you don't feed them today to ease the ammonia load.

Prime is very usefull in those situtions dose the whole tank, that way the ammonia is less toxic but the bacteria can still feed

Great idea. I usually hammer the tank with prime when i have given my filters a good clean.

I doubt it will

I believe they sell API though? Maybe stress coat or stress zyme will be a similar product (can't remember exactly which is which from them. lol)

Right 40% water change, 15ml of API Stresszyme, will now sit back and wait til tomorrow.

Man my fish hate me at the minute! ;p

Lol! I have just done my big tank and my Oscar was looking at my fingers and thinking hmmmm... food...

Fingers crossed your tank will be sorted then now.

Does the StressZyme do a similar job to Prime then?

According to the bottle it does (who know if its as good?), but, its £5.99 a bottle in petsathome, so hopefully it works! ;p LOL

There were a few nutrafin products that did similar things too, and this new 'I love fish' range or whatever its called.

Cool mate. Get yourself some Prime from the Bay though when you next need some, it's amazing and has a fantastic concentration level!

Ive been doing a fish cycle thanks to maidenhead aquatics. Dont worry about your readings few water changes will sort that out. My readings were 2.0 for ammonia, soon droped after water changes.
Hope this helps

Cheers guys for your help! That API stuff (combined with the water change) worked a treat!!

Ammonia back to double 00's ;p - the plecs can have some courgette tonight! ;p
