So first off, I'll say how I set up. I fed them blood worms, fairy shrimp, high protein betta pellets for conditioning. I set up the spawning tank, and put the male in for a day. I put the female in the chimney vase, and left her in that for a day. I released the female from the chimeny vase last night, and they finally started breeding this afternoon! Spawning finished about 20 minutes ago. I determined it was over, because the female was looking really stressed (vertical bars became horizontal and she was just kinda floating around). So I took her out, but I did manage to take pics and a video!

WOW what a fantastic nest :good: Great pics of the couple too......now the agonizing wait for them to hatch  Don't forget to leave a light on for him overnight so he can see.

Oh, I know. I want them to hatch so badly!

Yup, I already knew that and planned on leaving the light on. Thanks for the tip anyhow! :good:

Eggs hatched last night!! :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

They're swimming vertically today!!!! I expect they'll be swimming normally soon and I'll have to take the male out. He's surprisingly being a good father for a first timer.

But there seems to be more than I thought! Then again, I'm only good at estimating distances, not number of things. lol.

More pictures will hopefully be up later tonight. I am watching them until they swim vertically. But during all this I have to do a crap load of homework (and extra credit, I wanna get my grade up in cell biology) along with cleaning.

Congrats........that's brill news. You wont be able to tear yourself away from them now  I'd invest in a good magnifying glass too.......you get to see their little upturned mouths better :good:

My brother's got a magnifying glass, I'll see if I can borrow it. This is so cool. I can already see color differences. There are really light ones right now that are white, and than there are really dark ones! :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: I think I'm going to take the male out in an hour or two, because I'm afriad they'll start swimming vertically while I sleep and he'll decide to eat em up.

EDIT: My brother has seemed to lost his magnifying glass. -_- Oh well.

Sounds like you're going to have a nice mix of colouring :good: Don't panic too much about getting the male out as soon as you see the first ones free swimming. There will likely be quite a few still in the nest that need looking after. Our last spawn Dad was belting around the tank collecting them all up and taking them back to the nest (at first I thought he was eating them but when I looked closely he was spitting them out), when it looked like the majority were swimming ok we took him out which was about day 3-4 after hatching.

Doesn't sound like your gonna get much work done though

Well I did take the male out last night. He was angry though. There are some that are already swimming and some that are on the ground, but coming up every few minutes. They're very funny to watch.

That's great :good: What are you feeding them? Any pics of them yet? :D :D

I'd like to have microworms, but shipping costs is the reason I can't have them (I'm low on cash and I'm still applying for my first job). So I have to deal with liquid fry food. I have brine shrimp however for later.

I'm trying to get pics, but my camera doesn't do the best at focusing anymore because someone dropped it and it hasn't worked the same since.

I'll try to get some pictures up within the next two days, when the rest of them are free swimming.
