Why is it some of my danios are slender and some appear to have a bigger (almost swollen looking) bellies? Are some male and some female. I noticed this a few days ago but the fish seem to be swimming and eating fine so i don't think they are ill. Is there anything to worry about? Thanks peeps

The ones with the swollen belies are usually female in many cases.

Thanks. I hope this is the case. I'm parnoid that its dropsy as my fish were ill over the weekend and i lost four of them. I know they often develop dropsy as a secondary illness. Although as i say, they are swimming and eating fine and have been fine all week since i noticed on Sunday !!

If they are dying than I may be afraid to say that it could very well be dropsy.

Some died on the weekend and since then i have noticed the swelling. Have treated the fish and they seem to be fine as i say, just a couple of the danios seem to be a bit swollen

Okay make sure to keep a close eye on them though. ;)

I have been. They have no other symptoms of dropsy just a bit swollen and surely if my danios had it, my other fish would have it? Danios are pretty hardy fish, so i would have expected my guppies to get anything if any of the fish?? I first noticed the swelling on Sunday but they've been ok and no deaths since then !!
Forgive my constant posting but i really do worry as i hate loosing my fish as im sure you all do !!

I would hate to be in a similar situation. Did you research dropsy and compare what they look like? That may help you somewhat to determine what is happening. Sorry I ran out of ideas and I'm not sure what you should do.

To me, the eyes don't seem to be bulging and the scales don't look to be raised so i hope they are ok. How long does dropsy take to kill a fish?? If it is dropsy??
As i say i first noticed the swelling (if it is even swelling) on Sunday and the fish don't seem to have got any worse since then

I'm sorry I don't know that much about it. I would just let it ride and see what happens.

Oh, I'm not sure what to tell you than besides keep an eye on them. Lets hope for the best. :)

Thanks. I hope so too !!

Although i'm the type of person who will sit all night and watch them, thats how paranoid i get !!

Oh and i've noticed now that one of the guppies and one of the danios seem to have like poo hanging out of them but its reddish in colour !! Is this normal??

Did they eat anything that had red in it? Did you add anything new to their diet lately. I have no idea what it is. We need some more experienced people on in thread other than me. :)
