I have had a pearl danio for about three years now. About a year ago its back began to arch, which I put down to old age but recently it has become a lot worse. It seems to be overbouyant, spending most of its time at the surface. It swims ok when feeding and remains upright all the time.

I have several other danios (pearl, leopard and zebra) amongst other species, which are all in good health and the water condition is very good, however when this all started, I had a very sick peppered cory with blisters all over it. That fish was removed from the tank quickly and like I said earlier, none of my other fish have had ailments.

Am I right in the original thought of old age or is there something more sinister lurking?

It could be something other than old age?

What are your water stats?
Are there any other symptoms? Like flashing, rubbing against things, gasping for air, not eating etc

Bent spines besides old age can be fish tb to internal parasites.
Don't like the sound of the cory who has the blisters all over.
Any fish gone thin.

There are no other symptoms whatsoever except it seems a bit lethargic. It is a little thinner than usual and slightly pale. None of the other fish are suffering any illness. The water stats are all normal except for a very small level of phosphate which is present in the water supply. the water is cycled 30% biweekly and treated with cycle water treatment. My main question is COULD this be old age? If so, do you think it would be better to let it die before it gets worse. I am begining to think this would be best.
As for the cory with the blisters. Very sad. He was alone in a hospital tank for almost 2 months, slowly deteriorating, before I decided end his suffering. The blisters were never diagnosed, even by a specialist aquarist vet to whom I gave the body. Complete mystery.
