For about a week or so, one of my danios has been acting strange, pacing near the bottom of the tank, but still eating. He didn't appear to be scratching himself, just acting different. We did our weekly water change but didn't notice a lot of difference. Still he had no other symptoms until tonight, when we noticed a single large white spot sticking out of the top of his head. About half an hour later, the white spot is largely gone, but it still looks like an irritated lesion. We captured him in a dip & pour, and examined him with a magnifying glass, but don't really see any other spots. So, now we're trying to figure out what to do next. Does it sound like ich? He seems stressed by the dip & pour. Should we let him go even though he may infect the rest of the tank? Should we treat for ich even though we're not sure whether that's really the problem? Do we need to remove the carbon bag first (a bit of a pain in our tank)? Is the treatment safe for our dojo, which is scaleless? We also have one golden algae eater, 2 platys, 4 other danios, and 3 albino corys in the same tank (which is 34 gallons).

Thanks for any help you can give!

UPDATE: We let the danio go from the dip & pour last night because he's not acting sick but was stressed by the confinement. This morning he is still acting pretty normal but has a whitish spot or lesion in the same spot on top of his head. Could this be an injury? What would a fish scab look like? Or could it be the beginning of ich?

What are your water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

It dosn't sound like whitespot to me.

Does the spot look like it's filled with fluid.
Any redness to the spot.
Does the spot resemble a cauliflower.
Has the spot just suddenly appeared.
Does the fish look pale or darker in colour.
Is the fish acting listless and lethagic.
