I realised too late, after some casualties (faulty ammonia indicator) that my tank had started to cycle again after the addition of new fish. The tank has now completed its cycle. I had hoped that my zebra danio would recover but he is getting worse . I havn't as yet seperated him as i didnt want to stress him. if anyone can tell me what is wrong and how i can help the poor little guy i would be forever grateful.

Tank size:66L
pH:6.7
ammonia:0
nitrite:0
nitrate:20-30 (consistent with tap water)
tank temp:28C

Fish Symptoms:his long fins are split (i thought this was from the ammonia, this is how i realised there was a big problem) he was always a bit smaller than the others but he keeps getting skinnier, he is still eating. His face is red, its more noticable when u look at him front on, its not on the surface. While th tank was still cycling all 3 danios looked contstipated a lot but than seems to have stopped. A few days ago i noticed he had a grey patch on his side, its now darker (but still looks dull if that makes sense)and has them on both his sides and his back. The female had a black spot on her belly but that looked small and dark. Yesterday the male looked like he might of scrapped against something and lifted a scale on his side, its hard to see but it looks like its going fuzzy. Since i got home today the sick male is hiding on the bottom of the tank. He came out to eat but went right back. All other fish in the tank seem to be happy with no symptoms. All in all one very unhappy danio :-( and a very stressed me  All answers will be greatly appreciated.

Volume and Frequency of water changes:approx 20% every 5 days

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank: sponge only filter, water conditioner, and cycle added when i got desperate

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration): 2 small clown loaches, 2 peppered corys (which triggered the cycle, 1 cory didnt make it) 1 platic log, a plastic plant and an unknown floating plant

Exposure to chemicals: none

Now he has stopped swimming around and is sitting at the top of the tank. :-( not looking good.

Cycling tank takes it toll on a fish.
Black patches are ammonia burns that are healing.
Has he gone thin through not eating.
I would treat with a bacterial med if some patches look fluffy on the fish.

I have just got home from work and all his scales have lifted.
He has not stopped eating at any point.
the black patches did not appear til about a week after the tank was cycled. i dont think ammonia caused this, if it did would the burns heal?
He is sitting at the back of the tank on the bottom, only comes up when i feed. Not looking good :-(
what meds would you recommend?

I sepperated the danio last night and treated him with Broad Spectrum medication (from Aquarium Science). It says its for bacterial, fungal and parasitic diseases. Is there anything else i can do?

If his scales are sticking out dropsy build up of fluids, this is the last stage of the desease organ failure.
Sorry he's not going to make it.
Epson salt baths helps draw the fluids out but he sounds weak.
That med is it a tonic at it sounds like one.
