i just happened to notice one of my danios today while feeding. his side fins are sticking straight out (not moving) his scales are very obviously sticking out too and his body looks "out of focus" rather than sharp and slick like it should. what is this? i netted him and he'd kinda float... then regain himself and swim a little then as if in a catatonic state again float.... the regain his head. i didn't know what else to do so i plopped him in a container w/ tank water, added some stress zyme and a baby pinch of salt (yes, i dissolved it first in a cup and poured it on the opposite side of his little container. what the heck is wrong with him?! i'm so upset about my platy dying i want to cry just coz this dude looks funny.

i gave everyone else in the tank a good look- everyone else looks normal.

Tank Stats:
size: 75 gallons
age: 4 months
temp: 82°
ph: 7.3
ammonia: 0ppm
nitrite: 0ppm
nitrate: 20ppm
tank mates: 5 other zebra danios, 2 male dalmation mollies, 5 female dalmation mollies, 6 buenos aires tetras, 6 pristella tetras, 1 common pleco, numerous molly fry

Dropsy and once the scales stick out that it i'm afraid, last stage of the desease organ failure, all there is to do is maybe a epson salt bath to dry and draw the fluids out, you could also try an antibiotic if you can issolate the fish.

he is isolated. his body isn't swollen though... i read somewhere the bacteria causing it is contagious to humans- is it?
how much epson salt to put in a small cup?

it was an article on betta's w/ dropsy. is there a difference? it said (a) the fish was a goner if the scales are sticking out and (B) the bacteria causing the fish to die is contagious to humans.

Ok, but never heard of it, but i would be careful then, learn something every day.

hey Wilder- it keeps saying they have to be swollen. this fish isn't. just his scales are sticking out. i'm so frustrated right now i could cry. platy died, now there's white crap in my betta tank, now this :(

Sorry when it rains it pours, what part of the body are the scales sticking out, sometimes a fish can have a few raised scales due to parasites.

Ok, here's a not-so-great-picture. but you can see the scales and fins.

here was the link i read... http://www.bettatalk.com/betta_diseases.htm it's close to the bottom in the disease part.

Can you get the fish at another angel hard to see that pic.
Always should wash your hands if you come into contact with a sick fish, but i doubt you will catch anything, tb is different as you can catch that through a cut.

He dosn't look right, i would go with dropsy, check his eyes as well are they bulging out.

no, it was just the flash of the camera. he's normal size, normal fish eyes, just pinecone scales and his fins are sticking straight out.
