I had a shoal of 6 danio in my 30 litre Biorb and had seen them spawning several times over the last few weeks but their offspring never stayed around long enough for me to see them.

Yesterday I was able to move the shoal over to my newly cycled 240 litre tank, leaving my Biorb empty, or so I thought. I woke this morning to find a couple of fry free-swimming and about 20 more attached to the side of the tank.

I have been out today and bought some Liquifry number 1 which I have dripped into the tank and stirred up. I am planning on adding about 6 drops 4 times a day for the next week or two. After that I am planning on getting some brineshrimp eggs and and hatching them and adding the shrimp to the tank. How old should the fry be before this, is two weeks about right? At what age can they stop eating the brine shrimp and go onto finely ground flakes?

Do you think that I can expect many more fry to surface from below the ceramic media in the next day or two? Also how long do they stay attached to the side before they start to swim around and once they are swimming do they go back to the side and attach themselves, land on leaves of plants or just swim all day long? I'm just wanting to gauge how far down the hatching/swimmimg process I am.

Does anyone see a problem with them being in a Biorb given the bubble tube coming up through the middle? The two I've seen swim into it, shoot to the surface and then just float to the edge then repeat in a loop, very funny to watch but hope it's not endangering them.

Finally, the shoal I had in there were a mixture of leopards and zebras - I think I read somewhere that this means the fry will be zebra - is this right?

Thanks to The Wolf I've been able to check out some breeding details on his website and trawled through some previous posts on here, if any one can answer some of my questions I'd be really grateful.

Thanks in anticipation, Andy.

when my pair of danio spawned i ended up with only 2 by the time i noticed them. i would get the bbs as soon as possible. you could even try a mixture of highly crushed up flake food or first bites (mine survived and thrived on the flakes) in combination with the bbs. definetly add some crushed flake food while you are using the liquifry in my opinion. aside from that good luck and get some pics if you can when they get a bit bigger.

Here is a picture of the fry when they were less than a week old

They are still resident in my 30 litre Biorb and growing quickly. I have about 15 who are still alive and kicking. I am hoping to be able to raise about 5 or six to be big enough to add to my main tank so they can shoal with their parents. Another six weeks or so I reckon. I fed them Liquifry number 1 and baby brine shrimp eggs for the first 2 and a half weeks.

I have recently moved on to Liquifry number 3, which gets the bottom of the tank filthy. I'm doing regular water changes but have set up a second DIY hatchery for my brine shrimp so they are mainly feeding on this. It is quite incredible how large and red their stomachs get. It looks like they're going to explode. They are really starting to look like fish rather than tadpoles in the last few days. You can see the stripe markings on nearly all of them so I think it's a full batch of Zebras. I've added a couple of photos from tonight, 3 weeks old now. They are not easy to photograph but here's the best couple of about twenty pictures I took:

Here you can make out the full red bellies.

You can make out the Zebra markings on the fish just in front of the leaf.

More updates and hopefully some more distinguishable photos to follow in a few weeks.
