I haven't gotten any kind of fish from walmart in like about a year. I got Stardust (my pink [orange dalmation] betta) about a week ago. And what happens???

He has ick now. He was kinda shaking last night (like fish do when they have ick) but he had no spots on him at all. And then this morning he's covered in white spots....

I haven't had a fish with ick in well OVER a year's time... meaning probably like 3 or 4 years ago was the last time. And I've never had a betta with it.

Is there anything special I need to do other than put in the treatment stuff (luckly I buy the stuff just in case...)? I put in the stuff follwing the instructions on the package. I also left the light on the tank since I don't have a heater and I know you are suppose to keep the tempature close to 80°F. My tanks are generally around 76-78° without a heater. and i also added an air stone to mix the stuff around in the water.

Anything else?

I guess this is my clue not to buy from Walmart anymore... I thought I had already figured that out.

theres not much else you can do i would say just to get a heater as that way it will be a constant temp if the temp changes it could stress your betta and kill him. but otherwise you are doing every thing you can.
Good Luck.

that is so annoying....it has happened to me so many times..I never learn. I always put a smidge of salt in as well for ick...fingers crossed you have got it in time.. :good:

Ok, I found that raising the temp and waiting for the spots to go away then treat. Either that or stablized copper salt. Works every time.

I always keep salt in with my bettas, so that's done.

He was a bit more active when I went in there a couple of hours ago. I'll check on him again when my daughter wakes up.

Thanks for your help. :)

hope he will be ok think you said he is a dalmatian one I got one of those I love them...lost my first one...really pretty..

Oh Bless, I hate ick..there was a betta yesterday had it really bad. I think the chap would have let me have the fish but there didnt seem much point stressing the poor fish out and then having him die on me. The chap in the shop put water treatment in. He has a snapper turtle in a big tank in the shop, he says he feeds it the fish that are really ill or die on him......

sorry for your loss and am pinching your thread
