Hi,

This may seem like a really stupid question to some of you, but i'll ask it anyway!!!
I bought 2 honey gourami's at the weekend and have noticed tonight that the female has only got half of her left ventral fin. Has this been nibbled off by another fish, and will this affect her at all? The male is using his to feel around, but she is not even using her good one.

Thanks for your help

Do you know whether she had it when you first brought her home? Keep an eye out to see who nipped her and try to correct this if possible. It shouldn't cause her any problems though and it'll grow back - though possibly not as long as it was originaly.

She definently had both complete fins when I got her, and also earlier today as when I rearranged some plant she touched me!
Is it the other fish? I also bought a pair of kribs at the weekend - they have already become quite defensive about a particular area of the tank - it might be them.

What other fish have you got? She did probably get it nipped off by one of your other fish. It could very well be the kribs.

Sounds like you have a pair of breeding kribs to me.

Make sure it dont get infected and she should be alright for the rest of her life. It is a diadvantage for her having half missing, but deffinately not a complete disability. She'll live quite happily! :p
