I made a huge mistale with the cycling of my tank, and now i need to rehome my fish to cycle my tank.
But i read somewhere that fighters can live in tanks that haven;t been cycled. Could i leave my fighter i my tank, but just do water changes frequently?

Siamese fighting fish are regularly kept in unfiltered containers. Their water is replaced once or twice a week and they usually do fine. They can survive in a tank while it is cycling but you have to try and keep the ammonia levels low. this can be achieved by only feeding a small amount every few days and by doing partial water changes on alternate days. After a month or so you the filters will have cycled and you can start feeding every day.

Now for the answer I wanted to write about cycling with bettas.
How do they reach the peddles with such short fins?

Bettas can tolerate high ammonia levels compared to other fish, so actually a betta would be a good fish to cycle your tank with. Just keep an eye on him (her?) and make sure he's not getting too stressed by it.

It's a him. and just to give you guys some more details, i helped move the tank from its initial location to JellyPi3's house, the tank was still being used when we cleared it out. On keeping the filter cycled i made a mistake and put it into clean water between it being in old water and entering the new tank.

A majority of her cardinals have died because of this and we both wanted to know if the betta would be ok.
