i will be using old media which is astablished for my fry tank, 10gals. i have a question, will the media's bacteria die if there are only a few week old fry in the tank? if so what should i do to stop it from dying??
i don't think it will die off 100% but it will drop a lot, small fish small waste, as long as the fish are produceing waste then the filter should be ok. the filter should be able to cope as the waste builds up as the fish get bigger, as it want be in big amouts? thats the way i see it any way.
It depends on lots of variables. Ammonia content of the water, temperature, oxygen saturation etc etc. The general rule is try not to have your filter off for any longer than necessary.
What kind of filter is it? When my power goes out for more than 2hrs, I start replacing the water in the filter with water from the tank. I do that about every 30min. My filter is a canister though, if your filter doesn't hold that much water you will have to act sooner. You can also take the media out and float it in the tank. I don't do anything for internals except swish the water around a bit. Hope that helps.
well some sad news, 4 of the fry have died since i moved them in the new tank
i also had to move a male platy into the tank because tetras were buging him his tail is all chewed up
now the filter i have is called, Aqua Clear 20, it is a hang over type for 10gallon tanks.
my other question is, could the rocks i placed in the aquarium harm my fish? they are small river rockers used for lucky bamboo's here is a pic of them.
