No, it shouldn't stall it. It will be considerably less efficient though, only about 30% as efficient than at a pH of 8 say. If the pH drops lower then yes you will completely stall the cycle. Boosting it with bicarb of soda will help but I can't remember if you're doing fishless or not and you have to be very careful if dosing with fish in.

No, I mean sodium bicarbonate which is sold in the baking section of your supermarket as Bicarbonate of Soda (mustn't contain anything else).
