Cycling New Filter With Old Filter/tank

hello i just bought a 55g tank, right now i have a 30g can i add the new filter running with the 30g filter in the 30? will that work or do i need to cycle the tank and filter its self? sorry if this doesnt make any since

What you're talking about is actually called cloning. You should run your new filter on your old tank for about 2 weeks before moving it to the new tank. Your new tank would then be ready to be lightly stocked. It would also help to put some gravel/sand from the old tank into a clean (new) nylon stocking and put it on the gravel in the new tank to introduce benefical bacteria to the new gravel/sand.
