I almost always clone a new tank and I am one of the people that always has extra filters running somewhere. Right now I have only 2 extras and I am feeling very vulnerable. That does not change the answer to the OP which showed not enough material to get a clone going but plenty of plants to take care of ammonia removal. Each question should be analyzed on its own merits, not just given a canned answer. The clone looked like it would have been ineffective and the stated parameters did not make sense for a clone. Nitrates at zero are not a cycled or cloned tank, they are a tank that has enough plants to remove all nitrogen.
