ok some might already know i do have fish already that had to be removed from my really bad tank as one eventually died because my water was that bad, im using gravel instead of sand now aswell, anyway i have a new filter on the way and some decent fluid test kits aswell,

seems as i have fish already should i do a fish-in cycle to get them all back into the tank asap or a fishless cycle? i have to be honest im pretty unsure on doing a fishless cycle even after reading the stickys :( the fish-inc cycle seems much simpler for me, i just dont want to mess it up.

to add to this, i have a roughly a 28 gal tank and the fish to go in are,

1x betta
1x guppy
1x molly
1x balloon molly
1x zebra D
4x neons

if i was to do a fish-inc cycle who would be best suited to it out of my fish? also should i add my plants now or wait for it to cycle?? thanks!!

anyone? i could really do with some help on his....

bump! somebody please help me out with this!!

Can you explain that bit mate? Are the fish in a cycled tank already?

I'd highly reccomend you do a fishless cycle. It really isnt that hard once you're underway. Just add 5ppm of ammonia, wait for it to drop, then do it over and over again. Then when ammonia and nitrites are dropping within 12 hours of you adding ammonia, you're pretty much done :)

ye my fish are in two two other tanks one is fairly new but with a filter thats got some bacteria in it so it should be ok, the other tank is fully cycled,

im unsure on ammonia and how to test it and reall dont know where i would get some pure ammonia? any ideas....?

If your fish are already in cycled tanks, wait and clone a filter from one of the mature tanks. If the fish are not in cycled tanks, it will be easier to keep up with the water changes in a larger tank because it won't go bad on you nearly as fast as a small one would. I said clone on purpose. If you have an established tank, you can use its filter media to clone the filter and get a rapid start on the fishless cycle in the new tank.

ok ive got all that but im unsure where i can get this pure ammonia from? does anyone know?

i asked in boots today and got a funny look and the lady said you cant buy the stuff? whats it called? ammonia right? or does it have some special name?? thanks!

houshold Ammonia, boots sell their own brand, it is usually in the household cleaning section. you probably need a larger boots as the smaller branches don't seem to stock it.

ah i see so its called household ammonia right? just want to clear this up as im going to be starting my fishless cycle as soon as i get it.

when I went to Homebase I just asked for ammonia, got a weird look and the old guy asked me what I wanted it for. Explained I was setting up a fish tank and why I needed it as I followed him to where it was.

lol well i spoke to anouther lady in boots today and asked her for some "household ammonia" finaly! result ive got my new filter and ammonia and im going to start a log of it tonight :)
