Hi,

I've just set up a new Juwel Rio 125 aquarium. Trying to find out when it's safe to add fish but am getting conflicting advice. Some say add a few danios after a week and monotor ammonaia/nitrite carefully whilst others say go for fishless cycling for a month by adding fish food daily or neat ammonia. I'm now confused and would appreciate some advice. Thanks.

:hi: Fishless is the way to go. The add and wait method is the one I prefer. Fishless cycling is easiest done with liquid ammonia (9.5%.) Not just any ammonia, it has to be free of dyes, scents, and surfectants (soaps.) It can go as fast as 4 weeks but 6 is not uncommon. Too many factors to predict exactly how you are progressing.

Thanks Robby. Could you explain the add and wait method? Thanks

Thanks for your help. It's much appreciated.

Yes fishless is defo the way to go.

I have the same tank as you, the rio 125 and when I first cycled it, I was a newbie and hadnt found this forum and I did a fish in cycle with 4 zebra danios, luckily they all survived and I still have all 4 now, over a year later. When I eventually get another tank, I won't be making the same mistake again and will definately do a fishless cycle, it is much kinder to the fish and is less work for you to do as well.

Andy
