cycle with guppies??????????????

my mom wants to get guppies for her 46g, but there are no other fish that she wants that are hardy enough to cycle with, would guppies be okay to cycle with?

well i have tried that once on my 39gal and they all died so it might not be the best idea, imo you could use danios or something else hardy

I know!!! I will let her use my Danios to cycle her tank, the I will take them back, and she can get her own fish

Guppies are perfect for cycling a tank, they are very hardy. Or you could do a fishless cycle.

2 words feeder guppies ..... they don't meat their doom (atleast in somethings mouth) and they are 88 cents a dozen at my lfs

I cycled with guppies and they were fine. However, if you have Danios in a tank why don't you encourage her to do a fishless cycle. You could start it off with the filter media from your tank and as long as you keep this fed (with either ammonia or flake) it will cycle the tank. I did my baby tank that way and it took 11 days.
