3 days in to a fishless cycle with donated gravel. Ammonia went from 5ppm to .50ppm in 18 hours. Nitrite is of the scale, and nitrate is 80 ppm. Does this seem normal? Any advice would be great.
It seems perfectly normal to me Shlick. The donated media means your ammonia processing is getting off to a great start. If the nitrite processing can come along as quickly, you could be done cycling your cloned filter in a short time.
Thanks for the reply. I wasn't expecting the cycle to progress so quickly. It seems that donated materials can really speed things up, at least the first stage anyway.
I quess I will keep testing for ammonia and nitrites every 24 hours for now.
Ph 8.0
Ammonia 3ppm to 0ppm/24 hours
Nitrites off the chart
Nitrates 80 ppm
