large tank with a few plants, some wcm minnow, a couple of fingerling carp and a small map turtle. 2 yr old setup
Lighting is uvauvb strip for turt
Canister Filter
zero nitrite
a little nitrate (ab 15 on my testing strip)
super hard water
pH around 7
KH around 10
I have upped filtration and added activated carbon to it.
Slightly reduced lighting period
siphoned and netted the evil stuff
upped water changes to ab once evry 3-4 days now- ab 30 percent with anti new tank syndrome stuff sometimes.
Blackout is not an option due to turtle and I really don't want to have to use an antibiotic.
someone suggested to me phospate remover but I don't think cyan works that way.
I am thinking of getting a better filter to see if that helps, maybe one with a spray bar
any suggestion pls would be great.
Right now am considering using antibiotics whilst removing sponges, some water, and fish to a temp tank. How long would the anti's take to work?
I'm sure I must be wreaking havoc with water qualiity making everything go up and down. Dunno if u could tell but I don't have a v. scientific approach to fish keeping. what should I be doing?

Hi,
caused by:

undetetcable ammonia spikes
dirty filters
organic waste
low nitrates (less than 10ppm) - those test strips aren't accurate at all, but then again the liquids are not much better
sunlight
poor circulation
