Cutting back?

Planted my tank up a couple of weeks ago and it seems quite successful at the moment except one of my plants is growing way too fast!!

How do I go about cutting it back? Is it just a case of cutting the ends off and letting it grow back as and when or is there a certain technique I should be using?

I have this plant that is cutting out a lot of light to one area of the tank and my swords look as though they may be struggling and it may be down to this plant so any help in this matter will be much appreciated!

every couple of months i hack everything back - no technique at all!


all regrows fine.......as it does in the wild where stuff isnt pruned by Ammano!
