Cut On Gill

Hiya, my Betta has developed what looks like a cut on his gill. It runs parallel to the normal gill flap. I think he's developed it gradually coz I've thought it kinda looked like it for a week or so but now it's definitely there which makes me think it's not a cut.

He won't come to the front long enough for me to take a pic but anyone got any ideas?

Ita it not the marks on his gills from him flaring??
Do they disappear and then re appear other times?

Yeah sometimes it looks worse than others. It's never looked this bad though. Do they get marks from flaring then?

Yeah. I found my royal blue male and silver female to be the worst. The blue males gets red lines that look like cuts, my female gets a lighter colour, almost White line.
I first thought it was cuts
