Custom 845 Gallon / 3200 Litre Tank Plans...

I could block the door to the other garage off so theres a continuous wall the whole of the length then... too many options... if i did that i could have something like 14ftx 3ft x 2.5ft which would be circa 3000 litres and presumably better for very large fish due to the extra 6ft in length and wouldn't require as thick glass? I seen a pic of someone who had a 14ft tank along one wall looked pretty good, he had it setup as a fast flowing river type system.

Extra length is of little benefit to very large fish rather than extra depth front to back. The extra depth allows them to move in all directions rather than swim a length, squeeze around and then swim back.

I am fairly sure that CFC got his 8x6x2.5 tank (12mm glass) for under £2k, though that was without a stand or hood.

I would want 3 shovelnose's (lima's not tigers! they grow to over 3ft!), a very large plec 22"+ maybe an arow and a school of tinfoil barbs and perhaps a school of balas if theres room. so nothing thats going to humongous.

I'd do the smallest of the 2 tanks for the shoal of balas :)

And the other bigger one for the shoal of tinfoil barbs and the aro.

Not sure about where the shovelnoses would go, but I'm guessing you could put the large plec in with the balas?

Hmmm, if it was me (which it won't be for a loooong time :p) I would probably go with your wall-length 14ft option, I think it would be cheaper, easier and nicer looking in the long run. On the filtering side you could a lot more easily make a full length current with powerheads with a long tank.

Having the L shape would be odd for the fish I think.. Swimming 7ft 'downstream' only to find themselves going back 'up'.

If you do want an arow, which species are you thinking of? Just because if you wanted to go with an SA silver then it would be cheap to buy, but you would need a wider tank than 3ft IMO. If you went jardini (austalian) then havning tankmates would be 'tricky' and if you went asian theyre expensive (start at arround £100) and for something really nice it would probably be something more like £500 give or take. You could go for something very special and have it as the main focus of the tank, with some shoalers (like balas, tin foils etc).
I think a better idea is the 9x4x2.5' you suggested earlier, allthough you dont sound like you want anything monsterous (unless you want a silver aro...)

On top of that Saratoga's are probably even more expensive over there than they are here and would need about 3ft in width. And no tankmates...

Definately not a jardini i want to have other "alive" fish in the tank too :) An asian one which doesn't grow too big, i don't want a fully grown one a little one and watch him grow would be fine, just wouldn't want to put it in something it'd outgrow as i wouldn't be spending out any more on tanks after this.

The tank can be wider, i just don't want it to have glass too thick 12mm pref 15mm max and i would like atleast an 8ft long tank minimum with over 2000 litres of volume. (exlcuding sump tank).

First of all what a cracking idea!!

BOSS aquariums had a T shaped tank like this in there show room for a long while and an L shaped one i think too. I could easily have lain down in the two ends and im just over 6ft. So i think it would be possible to do the L shape. Costly but manageable.

If it was me i would go for two tanks. You could have a smaller salt water tank across the top then a slightly longer tank for your FW fish.

I think i would be stocking it with either Discus and plecs or angels!!!

Good luck with it and i hope we get to see and hear what you decide!!

You gotta do that!!! :hyper:

I've always wanted to do something like that after seeing it in an aqarium once.

But I'd want it in the living room

Well what have you decided then matey??

At the moment i think i'll start out with 168"x36"x28"(14ft x3ft x2.33ft) circa 2800 litres 735 gal. 4.27meters long :)

Then later i may add another 6ftx2.5ft with a 4ft T shape tank 2.5ft coming out of the of that one. so 6ft long 2.5ft wide then a 4ft extenison in a T. For the T shape the intakes would be at either end of the T-bar and the outputs at the bottom of the T to create a fast flow river with 2 streams. I'd love a shoal of red finned cigar sharks in this setup.
