Hi I have had fishtanks with warm water fish for over a year but I was never really interested in breeding them. Now i am. I was wondering what are some of the easier fish to breed? I heard that rocket tails and beta are the easier two (correct me if im wrong) I have a seperate tank for the fish I choose to breed. Also, does anyone know or have a list or something about which sort of fish have live babes (not eggs)

Here's the fish index list for livebearers.

If you're going to start breeding, you need to think about what you are going to do with the tons of babies you'll be having, especially if you're breeding livebearers.
Also, livebearers are easier to breed, and breed in huge numbers that they are easily available in fish shops, so you wont make much money on them. Some fish shops wont even accept fish from people. Make sure you know where the fish will go to first.

Maybe you could try breeding endlers?

Bettas are actually quite difficult to breed. You first have to keep them separate and condition them, then bring them together very carefully, then separate them, then be prepared to separate fry as they grow. And the fry need small fry food.
Livebearers are easy- the problem is that everybody's doing it. Whether they want to or not. So there's a glut on the market. Unless you go for one of the more unusual livebearers. The common ones are mollies, platies, guppies and swordtails. Slightly more unusual, but very popular are endlers. Then you get a whole range of unusual ones like black chins, portholes, merry widows, heterandrias etc. And the goodeids which form a separate group- and need a bit of extra tlc as they are threatened in the wild. Also halfbeaks- again, I think need a bit more specialist care.

You might prefer some of the easier egglayers. Cherry barbs, corydoras, danios (though you won't make much money on the danios).

bettas are considered easy to breed because of their labirinth... using it they can breath atmospherical air so the oxygen level in the aquarium water doesn't really metter...

if you want to breed more pairs, you have the incovenience that you have to keep the males in different tanks

from the spawning point of view, if you have food for the fry you won't have problems :)

though i recommend you start with livebearers (i did the same) :)

ok thank you all for your replies, i would really like to breed beta because they would have to be one of my fav just behind angels :)

If you want to breed fish, you should go with the guppy. Guppies will breed in almost any enviornment. They're not picky at all. They're a lot of fun to breed too because of their colors and patterns.

But there is a big drawback- they can be very difficult to sell.

If you want to breed bettas, the betta forum will set you on your way. I have no personal experience, but I gather you would need to set up a separate breeding tank, and then a number of small holding jars for your male babies, when you get there. Also, conditioning food for mummy and daddy, and cultures of live food for the fry.
